Ordering resources + evaluation

The final chapter of Kamp Sajf 2007 was meeting together at B'kara 1 week after the end of kamp sajf. Many ZAK leaders (about 40) met at ZAK house so as to put all the things used during kamp sajf (about 3 van loads) into their place for safe keeping. This job took some 2 and a half hours since there were so many things. We then formed a big circle and everyone had a chance to express their feelings about how things went, how they worked with the other leaders and with the participants and also to raise any other matters. On the whole everyone agreed that kamp sajf went well, probably even better than past editions. Some points were also raised about things which are lacking and which have to be tackled during the coming year. When the evaluation was over, we all went out together for dinner to celebrate the end of a successful 'Watts ur source'.

Behind Kamp Sajf

For kamp sajf to be a reality, there are many things which go on behind the scenes. These things vary from meetings, preparing of resources, many e-mails, telephone calls and contacts, cooking, preparing and dismantling of the location, and so on (this year there was also babysitting). Here are some photos showing some of these things and others which were missed out.

Sunday 9 September - Last Day and Archbishop Mass

It was a slow start as most people were still asleep, tired after the yesterdays activities. The workshop this morning consisted of remembering what happened during the past year and then we looked forward by splitting into various groups to take care of activities which are planned or which still have to be planned. Next it was time for some fun with the water games and when everyone was dry we had lunch. The big moment of Kamp Sajf came in the afternoon, when we prepared for and then welcomed Archbishop Paul Cremona. Upon arriving he spoke to us and thanked us for inviting him. Mass started with a little rain but all went according to plan. The Mass itself went along very well and when it was time to give each other peace, most ZAK members were able to give peace personally to Archbishop Paul Cremona. We had a lot of songs during the Mass and everyone present participated to the full. After Mass we took a group photo along with Archbishop Paul Cremona and then it was time to start the packing, cleaning and transporting of things back to B'kara. Most of the weekend participants lent a hand with something or other and it was not long before the first van load had left. It took a long time to finish, but eventually De La Salle was cleared. Now we will meet again on Sunday 16 to sort out the things at B'kara and to have an evaluation.

Friday 7 & Saturday 8 September - Weekend

All the leaders had a quiet night and then the leaders who were going to be participants during the weekend left De La Salle. That left the older leaders free to prepare for the Kamp Sajf weekend (a behind the scenes Kamp Sajf update will be available shortly).. During the afternoon we had a meeting and then packed up to go to Marsaxlokk. The participants were unkowingly brought there and Kamp Sajf started with a different animation. Some experiments were carried out and after supper there were the reflections. The program for the day had finished but almost everyone remained talking or playing board games till quite late.

Only a little more than 4 hours after going to bed, it was time to wake up for another day. Once we had settled down, the whole group was split into 4 as we had 4 guest speakers. These were Sr. Mariella Agius, Sr. Maria Salvina Grech, Amy Zahra and Captain Ruth Ruggier. All the workshops were very interesting and were enjoyed as the guest speakers were speaking about their own personal experiences. During the afternoon workshop the participants discovered their roots, which is after all their source. This continued with the possibility to think things over in the quiet of the countryside near Hagar Qim temples, where we heard Mass. Back at De La Salle, everyone took part in the community game, after which the board came out again. However most were quiet tired and it was not long before bit by bit the participants headed off to bed.

Thursday 6 September - 1-day-away

The ZAK leaders had a night without participants and woke up ready for the next group. At 9:00 the 11 and 12 year old ZAK members arrived and had the introduction. Once they had been grouped together they headed off for some workshops. After eating there were watergames and then they spent a long time preparing for the evening talent show. Something new was the invitation to their parents who joined us for Mass. The young ZAKkers then showed off their talents to their parents with 2 dances, a fashion show (where they had made their own costumes) and a play which they had written themselves. Everyone ate together and then the participants headed home with their parents or on their van.

Tuesday 4 & Wednesday 5 September - Sleepover 2

The second sleepover started in the afternoon and ended the next day in the evening. The ZAK leaders who did the workshops for the first sleepover also did the same workshops for the second sleepover. The groups, which were more numerous as there were more people for this sleepover, were formed for the first worshop before we had the evening program of BBQ, reflections and night game. The next morning after breakfast we had workshops and after lunch it was water games followed by Mass. During the Mass it was announced that the Mass which will be held on Sunday afternoon during the weekend will be said by Archbishop Paul Cremona. The sleepover ended with cleaning, animation and a lot of dancing. During the sleepover, some of the participants got to know each and themselves better, they expressed some of their talents and it was therefore a time of discovery.

Monday 3 & Tuesday 4 September - Sleepover 1

After the final preparations had been done, the first participants of Watts ur source arrived, ready for the annual appointment of Kamp Sajf. Once they had registered we started with a short animation and learnt the Kamp Sajf dance. During the morning workshops the groups could get to know each other a bit better while learning new things. Lunch was followed by a break and the watergames, the only activity where all the groups were together. After more workshops, mostly presented by the young ZAK leaders, we had supper, reflections and a night activity. During the night some slept and some did not, however everyone was up for breakfast. Soon after we prepared for and had Mass and the last thing before leaving for home was the cleaning up and closing animation.

Sunday 2 September - Preparations and meeting

This morning we continued where we had left off yesterday, that is with the preparations. The final touches were done and more ZAK leaders arrived. In the afternoon there was the leaders' meeting so that everyone would know what was going to happen and one of the last things today was a Mass all together. Then it was time for a rest before the participants start arriving tomorrow morning.

Saturday 1 September - Preparations

During the day of Friday, work on the showers had started and some ZAK members then returned in the evening to spend the night there. Saturday morning saw us compile a list of things to be done and we all then started on the work which included setting up the dining area, working around the kitchen area, finishing the showers, sorting out the resource room, getting the ZAK shop set up, painting the banner, getting the general area set up and many other bits and pieces. It was a busy day for all involved.

Thursday 30 August - Transport Prepared Resources to De La Salle

A number of us got together at B'kara in the afternoon to transport all the things needed for Kamp Sajf. 2 vans were used and each made 2 trips. For the first trip everyone helped to pack them up and then most of us went to De La Salle to unload. While some ZAK members remained there to put things under lock and key, the vans and other members returned to B'kara for the second trip.  When this second trip had been unloaded, everyone headed home for the last night before starting the 10 days at De La Salle.
