Pay It Forward
Article about preparations.
Today there will be the Pay it Forward activity for which it will be nice have many people in attendance. However the activity started a long time ago. I will mention just a few of the things as I am sure that there are many others that I don't even know about. The idea started when it was realised that it was going to be too expensive for many ZAK members to travel to Australia. ZAK were joined by P.L.Y.G. and have the backing of KDZ and help from Sedqa and during many planning meetings held many months ago the activity started taking shape. The launch was hosted by P.L.Y.G. and the Archbishop of Malta was in attendance. After that there was a lot of work to prepare ZAK house for the Catechesis which were attended by many young people, the last group to come for the Catechesis being those Maltese youth who are right now in Sydney for the World Youth Day. More planning meetings, on site visits, telephone calls, and a lot of public relations and yesterday the first of the things were carried to Kennedy Grove. Once there a team of ZAK and P.L.Y.G. members started setting up the things. There is still a lot to prepare during the day of Saturday and the evening will see the activity. We pray that all will go according to plan and that it will be a very memorable activity.

Il-preparazzjoni għaċ-ċelebrazzjonijiet tal-Jum Dinji taż-Żgħażagħ qegħdin fil-qofol tagħhom meta ħdax-il ġurnata l bogħod minn dan l-avveniment iż-żgħażagħ miż-Żgħażagħ Azzjoni Kattolika (ŻAK) Malta u l-Pastoral & Liturgical Youth group (P.L.Y.G.) qegħdin jaħdmu flimkien biex ikunu jistgħu jiċċelebraw dan l-avveniment ġewwa pajjiżna.
Fil-fatt bejn il-lejl ta bejn id-19 u l-20 ta Lulju li ġej, iż-żgħażagħ kollha ta Malta u Għawdex huma mistiedna jingħaqdu maż-żgħażagħ ta' dawn il-gruppi f'Kennedy Grove, il-Qawra biex b'hekk huma wkoll iduqu mill-istess esperjenza li l-Knisja Kattolika qiegħda toffri liż-żgħażagħ minn madwar id-dinja kollha. Għal din l-attivita ser ikun hemm diversi inizjattivi li matulhom iż-żgħażagħ stess ser ikunu qegħdin joħolqu ambjent ta' sinergija fost dawk miġbura. Fil-fatt it-tema magħżula lokalment għal din l-attivita hija PAY IT FORWARD bl-iskop li jitwassal il-messaġġ li l-ġid li nirċievu matul ħajjitna tajjeb li naqsmuh mal-persuni ta' madwarna.
Il-Programm ta' matul il-lejl ta' 19 u 20 ta' Lulju jinkludi:

Ikun hemm stands differenti fejn iż-żgħażagħ jistgħu jieħdu esperjenzi varji relatati ma temi magħżula għall-okkażjoni. Pay It Forward
The idea of Pay It Forward came from the movement and film of the same name. Pay It Forward will be happening on the 19th July and is an opportunity for Maltese Youth who are not travelling to Australia for the World Youth Day. There are going to be various activities for which the planning team has been working for a long time. After visiting various sites and a late meeting it was decided to use Kennedy Grove for the event. The planning team is made up of members from ZAK and PLYG but members from other youth organisations are welcome to join in. A meeting is going to be held on Wednesday 18 June at 19:00 near KDZ for those youth groups who would like to join the planning team. Members of any youth group and from the general public are also invited to join us on the day. More information about the activity will be put online over the coming weeks, so please come back often to keep up to date.
Enerġija, ferħ u mħabba huma l-ingredjenti prinċipali ta l-attivita Pay It Forward World Youth Day festival & concert imtellgħa miż-ŻAK Malta u PLYG fit-19 ta Lulju 2008. Fadal ftit inqas minn xahar biex id-dinja kollha tiċċelebra il-Jum Dinji taż-Żgħażagħ (world youth day), bil-qofol ta l-attivitajiet isiru ġewwa Sydney, l-Awstralja flimkien mal-Papa Benedittu XVI. Id-distanza bejn iż-żewġ kontinenti mhux ser ittellef biex hawn Malta noħolqu l-istess atmosfera żghażugħa li jkun hemm fl-Awstralja. Għalhekk iż-ŻAK Malta u PLYG, bl-għajnuna ta iktar għaqdiet, ser itellgħu attivita miż-żgħażagħ għaż-żgħażagħ ġewwa Kennedy Grove, Buġibba.
Tul ix-xhur ta April u Mejju, saru madwar 25 laqgħa tal-katekesi, jew aħjar laqgħat ta preparazjoni, lil żgħażagħ min madwar Malta bit-tema tal-Jum Dinji taż-żgħażagħ. Dawn il-laqgħat ġew iffukati fuq kif aħna nistgħu nirċievu il-frott mill-Ispirtu is-Santu imma l-iktar importanti huwa li ma niqfux hawn imma naraw kif aħna ser ngħaddu din il-qawwa lil ħaddieħor biex flimkien inkunu xhieda ta Ġesu. Waqt il-katekesi ġie spjegat il-kunċett ta Pay It Forward fejn jien nagħmel xi ħaga ta ġid lil tlett persuni, imbagħad dawk it-tlett persuni jagħmlu l-istess ħaga ma ħaddieħor. B'hekk in-numru ta persuni li jintlaqtu min din is-sistema ta ġid jiżdied bi tliet darbiet kull darba.
Dan huwa l-għan prinċipali ta l-attivita Pay It Forward. Ser isiru numru ta workshops li jirriflettu din l-ideja. Ser ikun hemm workshop li ser ikun qed jispjega l-ideja u fl-istess ħin ser ikun hemm workshops oħra, bħal pay it forward games, pay it forward drinks, pay it forward crepe', pay it forward photos u ħafna aktar. Kontemporanjament mhux ser tonqos il-muzika live fuq l-istage prinċipali min bands u kantanti lokali. Din l-attivita li ser tibda fit-8pm ser tilħaq il-qofol tagħha fis-1am fejn ser niċċelebraw flimkien quddiesa, fl-istess ħin li l-Papa Benedittu XVI ser ikun qed jiċċelebra l-quddies ġewwa Sydney ma eluf ta żgħażagħ oħra. Matul l-attivita mhux ser jonqsu il-kollegamenti live ma l-Awstralja fejn ser induqu ftit mil-enerġija li toħloq attivita bħal din.
Mela fit-19 ta Lulju, ninġabru flimkien ġewwa Kennedy Grove biex nilħqu l-qofol ta l-attivitajiet li ilhom għaddejin min Marzu u niftħu sfida ġdida fejn dak li ilna nisimgħu nibdew nagħmluħ aħna stess ma ħaddiehor. Flimkien, id-dinja tkun post aħjar!!

As already mentioned there are going to be stands set up during the Pay It Forward activity. One of the stands is going to be the photos stand. On this stand participants will be asked to find 2 other persons and they will then dress up and pose for a photo together. The photo will be sent to each participant by post during the week following Pay It Forward. Each participant will donate 1 Euro towards the stand and the service being offered. Very important, all those who participate will be in with a chance to win some prizes from our sponsor. The prizes will consist of a 50 Euro voucher towards a photo session and 10 photos 6 x 9. Archbishop Paul Cremona has confirmed that he will be travelling to Australia during the days of World Youth Day 2008 and he has invited Maltese youth to go too. You can read the news article and the press release.

The Catechesis
So, what is the Catechesis that is being held at ZAK House in B'kara? The Catechesis consists of a meeting which lasts about 80 minutes. For the time being the contents of the meeting have to remain secret because there are many participants still to experience the Catechesis. There is a team of ZAK and PLYG members who prepared the contents of the meeting and also set up ZAK House for the occasion. This team makes a big effort to go to ZAK House early each time there is a meeting so as to prepare for the participants who will be arriving. The Catechesis meetings will be attended by all ZAK, PLYG and Navidas groups and are also open to other groups in Malta and Gozo. There is no age limit for these meetings, but for obvious reasons the age bracket of participants during each meeting will be as small as possible. However the same meeting can be attended by pre-teens, teenagers, young adults or adults (at different times to each other). The ideal group size is 15 - 30 participants. Anyone who would like to attend should send the application form (found at the top of this page) and they will then receive details about when they can attend for the Catechesis. If a group is small in size, they should also apply and their meeting might then be held with members of some other group so as to have the right amount of participants. ZAK House, B'kara is situated at number 213 Brared Street. This is the Street where the is the government primary school and the house is in the part leading to the police station. Having experienced the Catechesis myself, I can easily recommend it to anyone as it will be 80 minutes well spent. Therefore we look forward to receiving your application for the Catechesis meeting.
The WYD Logo
The logo distils the essence of the theme for WYD08:
"You will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you will be my witnesses" (Acts 1:8).
It highlights the promise made by Jesus to set fire upon the Earth by the power of the Holy Spirit which inspires the Pilgrims who come to Australia, to believe and witness to Him.
Central to the logo is the Cross raised in victory, representing Christ and the life of witness which the Holy Spirit enables. It is the passion of the heart of Christ, poured out into the world from the Cross, which consumes the young people of Sydney, of Australia and of the world. The whiteness of the Cross indicates that Jesus is the light of the world.
The flames of the logo represent the Descent of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost in tongues of fire. They evoke the Sacrament of Confirmation and the gifts of the Holy Spirit. The colours of red, orange and yellow flowing throughout symbolise the Trinity and Unity of God. They also bring to mind the colours of the Australian outback.
The blue of the logo represents the oceans that surround Australia, the waters of Baptism, the sea of humanity and Mary, full of grace.
The Opera House is the symbol of Sydney, the host city for World Youth Day 2008.
Feel The Power
The theme song for the XXIII WYD is Receive the Power, written by Guy Sebastian and Gary Pinto .
The English version is performed by Guy Sebastian and Paulini . The international version (with the chorus English and verses in Italian, Spanish and French), also includes performances by Robert Galea (Italian), German Silva (Spanish) and Amelia Farrugia (French).
Receive the Power will rally young Catholics of all backgrounds to World Youth Day in 2008.
In July 2008 the streets of Sydney, Australia will be abuzz with song, as hundreds of thousands of young people from all around the world gather to celebrate the XXIII World Youth Day. Receive the Power will be their anthem!
Guy Sebastian wrote this beautiful song with Gary Pinto and performs it with Paulini. They are faith-filled young people as well as top artists. Their theme is the words of Scripture chosen by Pope Benedict XVI. "You will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you will be my witnesses" (ACTS 1:8). Others, too, joined in the production. Together they have given God and the youth of the world something very beautiful.
The Risen Christ addresses the young people of the world in this song: "Alleluia, Alleluia! Receive the Power, from the Holy Spirit". They respond: "We will follow to the end s of the earth; "We will answer and do Your will; "We'll forever testify of Your mercy and unfailing love". This dialogue between Christ and the young disciples is at the heart of World Youth Day.
Through this music young people have the opportunity to reflect upon key themes of the Gospel, upon the opportunities God gives them, and upon the world they can build together, a world in which "Every nation, every tribe, come together." We look forward to joining you in Sydney in July 2008 to sing and so to pray double!

Journey of the WYD Cross across Australia
Some information regarding the trip to Australia for World Youth Day 2008. Please note that this is only as an indication and some details might change.
The dates for the WYD are from the 10 - 20 July 2008, with the final Mass being held on Sunday the 20th July in the morning. However the plan is that the Maltese travellers will go for the whole month of July. The 'Days in the Diocese' will be held in Melbourne or Brisbane. As there are many Maltese in Melbourne, the plan is that we go there. This will give anyone who has family or friends there a chance to meet them and it will be nice for the Maltese living in Australia to host the Maltese pilgrims. In Melbourne there is a Parish which is run by the MSSP. Therefore we will be leaving Malta for Melbourne where we'll spend 2 weeks. We'll then spend another 2 weeks in Sydney for the actual WYD and from Sydney return to Malta. Arrangements are being made with Emirates Airlines so as to try to get good prices. The price is calculated to be in the region of Lm 450.00 and it will include the flights, insurance and participation fee. By July 2007 we have to start booking our places as the Australians want to have the applications in quite early.
