What’s ur flavour BBQ 2009

Once again a group of brave and courageous ZAKKERS thought that the ZAK BBQ is a not-to-be-missed activity, since it is awaited by many and it is the activity that kicks-off our ‘ZAK Summer’

A team got together to help plan ZAK BBQ 2009.  This year the BBQ went by the name ‘What’s ur flavour’, as we wanted to look at our various summer flavours.  It was held on the 10th of July, and unlike other years it was on a Friday night, which was an experiment that seemed to work out well since approximately 300 Zakkers came from all around Malta.  People arrived from different places and at different times and found a refreshing treat: the sea, where they had time to enjoy themselves.  Unfortunately there were some casualties due to jellyfish; however, this did not spoil anyone’s fun.

Later on the animation set up by the planning team presented different flavours we might come across in life, such as vinegar, blood, sweets etc.  To add to this animation, ZAK members between the age of 10 and 14 had to prepare their idea of a summer flavour.  To find more about each flavour each group had to present something innovative and original to prove to their audience that their flavour is the best.

It was the first of its kind, but everyone was amused by the creativity and preparation shown by these members.  Some of these were: an original taste presented to us by the name of ‘Ahh x’toghma’ ; a poem which showed us the importance of the sun; we also got to see the victory of The Empire of Banana over the Empire of the Strawberries; and additionally we got to be the judges of which fruit was better between the coconuts and the pineapples.  Apart from these there were other well prepared and equally entertaining performances.  Following this there was the continuation of the play prepared by the leaders.

By the time the animation was over, everyone was ready to eat.  The food was well prepared and received with much appreciation.  When the hot dogs and burgers were finished, it was time to stop for a moment and reflect about the talents we might have but never really make use of or appreciate.

The evening ended with dancing to songs that will be following us through these hectic months. By dancing and singing together people got to know each other better.  Between 10.00pm and 11.00pm groups were picked up to go back home, and everyone left with a good taste of the summer yet to come!
