ŻAK Mosta

ZAK Mosta consists of different youth groups meeting at Mosta Parish. Currently ZAK Mosta consists of 4 different groups who meet according to the age of the members. These groups meet on weekly basis in different places around Mosta (please refer to the table below).

The Aim of ZAK Mosta is to provide spiritual and social formation to young people that will eventually be used to create catholic action within the community they form part of. During the meetings organised on weekly basis ZAK Mosta encourages active participation of all members so as to be able to create concrete action within the respective groups and outside.

ZAK Mosta was awarded with the Zghozija Mostija 2005 Award by the Mosta Local Council. This award which is very much appreciated was given to the group for its ongoing commitment and for being active by creating various initiatives within and outside the locality.

ZAK Mosta is represented on the Parish Youth Commission. As a group we often participate in different activities organised by the parish and others organised by ZAK and the Malta Catholic Action. By doing so we are practicing the synod’s guidelines to work in communion within our church.

Being Young. Creating a Positive Environment Around Us.

Being Young is a project that was held between the 23rd July and 4th August 2009. The participants of this project are members of Youth Aloud Youth Group coming from Preston UK and ZAK Mosta from Malta. The latter group is the one hosting the project. As young people we believe that we are active European citizens and so we decided to embark on a project where by means of the various activities and sessions we can learn further about different topics so that we would be in a position to take concrete action based on the informed knowledge. Amongst the issues that we dealt with during our project, there were the issues related to acceptance of different people coming from different backgrounds and with different abilities, the environment, creativity and the importance of appreciating our heritage and traditions. We also included our community in our project by means of an eco activity where we left a memorial of this project through the planting of trees in Mosta.

ZAK Mosta is represented on the Parish Youth Commission. As a group we often participate in different activities organised by the parish and others organised by ZAK and the Malta Catholic Action. By doing so we are practising the synod’s guidelines to work in communion within our church.

More information about this Youth Exchange, together with press releases, experiences of participants and photos can be found on the project website.

Some of the Past Events:

Launching of new law regarding Alcohol Consumption.

ZAK Mosta Participated during the launching of the new law regarding alcohol consumption. From now on it is illegal for a young person to consume, or try to obtain alcohol if s/he is under the age of 16 years. During the launching of this law ZAK Mosta particpated by means of different presentations and delivered a clear message that to have fun one needs friends and not alcohol.

Mario Tong, was divided into 3 workshops that dealt with the themes related to Tolerance, Responsibility and The relationship as young person within the Church. During the seminar ZAK members participated in an active way and this created an opportunity to look ahead to organise similar events in the coming time.

Press Release

ZAK Mosta Urges Positive Celebrations and launch new website www.zakmosta.org
On the occasion of the feast of the Assumption of Mary, ZAK Mosta is urging the general public to celebrate this feast in a responsible manner. Young people are calling to people celebrating this feast and the general public to reflect on what they are actually celebrating so as to use this opportunity to understand the need to live on the example set by St Mary. Whilst ZAK Mosta recognise the efforts done by many to organise the celebrations related to this feast, at the same time one needs to remember the purpose of the celebrations that are also forming part of the country’s traditions.
On this occasion ZAK Mosta are launching a new website www.zakmosta.org aimed to promote the work young people, members of ZAK Mosta, are embarking on with the general public. This website is another tool that will be used in the coming time to instigate active participation amongst young people.
