Roundabout project between Malta, Germany and Spain - Summer 2003-2004-2005

The group was recently concentrating on their trilateral project. This is a 3-way roundabout project between Malta, Germany and Spain.

In 2003 the activity was held in Hattgenstein in Germany. Activities in Germany included a walk in the forest, crafts (beading, tie dye and locks), relaxation and messages, a swim in the lake, an international evening, Maltese/ German/ Spanish nights, Museum visits, a visit to a fun park and swimming in a pool.

In 2004 the project was held in Malta between in August. Besides the planning meetings the group was involved in fund raising activities such as a disco, car wash, cake sale etc. To help prepare they had live-ins and also held a parents meeting (see photos below). The whole group looked forward to last year's roundabout project because it gave them the opportunity to: Meet new people and share experiences and ideas; intercultural learning; discuss the idea of Malta in a New Europe; Show our island to the foreign guests; visit Gozo and learn about it's traditions, and many more.

This year the group focused on the third part of the project which was held in Catalonia, Spain. This summer, ‘€quality Now’ focused on the differences between cultures, modes of living and other differences that exist in the different European countries – mainly in Malta, Germany and Spain. It dealt with the issues of diversity and the concern for equal opportunities, thus focused on how young people are all different but all equal. Tolerance was another subject which dealt with whilst living under one roof with people from different cultures. Moreover, the group was able to work directly in the community in Val d’Aran, hence explored what young people could contribute to society and how they could do this.

March 2005: WYD Cross activity

A mass organised by the group was held in front of an abondoned chapel in Zebbug. It was an opportunity where many young people from Zebbug participated in a quite original mass celebration.

Friday 1st December was Commitment Celebration for all five groups of ZAK Zebbug. A Mass was held at Villa San Filep next to ZAK Zebbug centre.

Everybody contributed in the preparation of the Mass that was celebrated by Fr. Michael together with Fr. Dunstan, where around 60 young people were present. During the celebration the young people together with their leaders read a commitment prayer as a sign of their commitment in ZAK for the following year, and at the end of the Mass each member of ZAK was given a commitment card to keep all the way through the year. After Mass, everybody was invited for a small party at ZAK Zebbug centre, organised by the younger group. A sense of identity was present throughout the whole activity.
