Why do we want to create a better environment at ZAK Rahal Gdid? This building was built back in 1992 after major structural problems. It was used by several young people, but unfortunately later on it was left empty and without use for a few years. ZAK in the past 4 years has been conducting an educational program for around 25 young people now aged 16 to 18 years who meet weekly. This program consists of meetings, activities and live-ins that aim to guide the young person to develop in a personal, social and spiritual way through non-formal educational methods.
The premises are also used by other young people who attend seminars and courses in this central location in Paola, especially by a group of young leaders who are following a course with us through the Pastoral Formation Institute, to become involved in leading other young people in our groups. The idea of this project is to create a better environment for a non-formal educational program, because the building needs to be adapted to today's needs with facilities that instigate a learning process. The idea is to expand the operations of ZAK Rahal Gdid and open another local youth group in the area in the coming months for young people aged 12 to 14 years.
At this point in time we have spent 15,000 euro thanks to the Malta community chest fund foundation, fundraising events by the young people themselves and the Maltese Catholic Action. This sum of money does not include the large number of hours of work done by the volunteers. We are now at a stage where we want to share the work done with you all, so we would like to extend an invite to our open day on the 11th of March at 10.00am.
